Shu Uemura Mini Nail Trio- Phantasm (2009 Spring Mirage Collection)

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket While I'm compiling other Spring collection posts I thought I'd better keep the blog flowing...here's a quick one! This is the Spring 2009 Shu Uemura collection which includes two limited edition nail polish trio sets (they are a fair bit smaller than the full sized Shu Uemura nail polishes, exactly half the size- 5ml each, full sized ones are 10ml). Retails for 800NT in Taiwan, which is about 24USD. I got the first set 'Phantasm', which features three shades, Lilac, Glitter and Soft Pink: Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
  • "Lilac" a pure lilac creme with glossy finish, no shimmers or glitters, very opaque in two coats.

However it's a disaster since perfect lilac creme just doesn't look right on the nails... (as sweet as it looks in the bottle i think it's one of those shades that struggles to look good on common nails, much like pale green cremes or pale blue cremes....unless u were doing a photoshoot or makeup promo..or using in small doses for decals or small prints.)

Swatch below playing with all the colors:

Right to left: (I dont like this pic and certainly would prefer better looking pics on my blog but for the sake of the review...): - Lilac topped with lots of glitter shade - Lilac topped with the smaller glitters (the glitter shade is versatile...you can put more or less depending on preference) - 1 coat lilac, with pale pink shade over it- looks like a strange grey pink- not good. - Pure lilac, 2 coats- you can see it does have a good finish. But on my fingers..the lilac base look so wrong..

  • "Glitter" shade- this is much like the limited edition releases in Sonia Rykiel's Christmas polish collection and I know some Japanese brands occassional release glitters like this size. It's a clear nailpolish base with tonnes of various sized glitters (from standard small shimmers and glitters to larger circular glitter circular flakes), gives a very dramatic and cool effect if you do like glamorous or more into the intricate Japanese type of sparkly nails.

Here's my sloppy pic with glitter shade topped over the lilac. Personally I think the glitter shade would look amazing if you were doing a candy soft pink nails with sparkles or a dark vampy shade with dramatic glitters.

Photobucket

If you like pre-mixed glitters of varying size similar to this but in a pre-colored base, I suggest the Kanebo Coffret D'or line- they have some good glitter topping shades in red/pink/blue/green etc. The consistency is great too. I'll do a separate post on all the Coffret D'or polishes I have down the track.

  • "Soft pink". A frosty pale pink pearl, it's like a silvery pale pink, I dont really like frosty shades but this is half frost + a pearly finish. It's a decent office shade and reminds me very much of OPI 'Pistol Pack'in Pink' polish. This is a little bit too generic a color, I'd wear this but not my top pick shade.

Here's my full mani photo with it, 2 coats, daylight soft flash, no base coat but with Seche Vite top coat:

Daylight, no flash, shade.

Shu Uemura brushes are good even in the smaller polishes, the pigment is rich and even for these three shades, unfortunately because the pale pink one is a frost finish, it has the same tendency as most frosty polishes that you'd need two good well painted coats to minimise streaking or uneven finish. One coat looks too uneven on my nails.

Photobucket

They are not quick dry, a good 30min later they'd still get dented and smudged without a fast dry topcoat (I applied Seche vite top coat). Werability is decent - I always use a topcoat though. Day 3 and still looking perfect.

Comparison of the regular sized nail polishes against the trio, mini ones are 5ml and regular full sized ones are 10ml: (the red one is "Deep Velvet", I think it's a limited edition shade from one or two collections ago).

The other set is called 'Rapsody', which features a pale blue creme, a glitter shade (looks same as the Phantasm set), and a frosty pearl champagne sand beige). I didn't get this set because the glitter looks the same (although it's good glitter!), the frosty pearl beige I probably got similar colors everywhere (and I dont really like frosty finishes), and the creme blue- what would I do with it!

Spring makeup must see! Armani/Albion/Paul & Joe/Maquillage/Coffret D'or / Aube Couture (February Spring Biteki special edition)

Photobucket

Biteki is one of the top Japanese beauty magazine much like Voce and Maquia (comparable to what Allure is in the US I suppose). Every quarter they release a special pamphlet which features almost EVERY single brand's seasonal collection (not just usual boring promo pictures but literally every item of the actual product), so you can see lipstick shades in actual colors and all the eyeshadows or even eyeliners/ eyebrow pencils all under professional photos!

Along with the pics you also have with a quick description of the product (e.g. this eyeshadow is meant to feature a sheer iridescent finish, or this lipstick line is a pigmented creamy finish), and whether product is Limited Edition (yes the word that makes all women crazy.. =P ) in addition to Japanese RRP prices and color codes/ full names (unfortunately not with English product names too- but I can always figure it out in the end by comparing against official website). Best of all is the main magazine body often uses those products on models, and in this little pamphlet it also notes like 'please refer to page 90 of the main magazine' where a product in the pamphlet featured in spring collection was applied to a model. How neat is that! so you can see great swatch pics on the model. (of course there's some photoshopping but I find the colors quite accurate).

Here are some extracts from magazine on things I want to get, there are so any pages in this supplment, I only took a few pics of the ones I'm interested in, respecting the copyright of the magazine, I highly recommend purchasing the magazine if you could (though this magazine RRP is 550Yen in Japan yet I can only find it for $19AUD in Australia, hello! what a ridiculous markup!)

(Japanese brands below can be purchased from http://www.adambeauty.com/ (cheaper but less choices and slower updates) or http://www.ichibankao.com/ (more expensive but quicker updates)). Not affiliated with either sites.

Suqqu

Suqqu is a Japan exclusive so far I believe (and also UK as a reader pointed out! thanks!), it's quite pricey...

Jill Stuart-

The same pink looks...

Shiseido Integrate

(Which is a drugstore line)

Photobucket

Est and Eprise (both are premium makeup lines)Photobucket

Kanebo Coffret D'or (I dont find the lipstick swatches too helpful though- neither is the main website, however if you like light to medium shades, most colors are really user-friendly and foolproof, other than a few really dark ones in the swatches you might want to check out first before purchasing sight unseen.

Ayura- again, mostly sold in Japan.

Photobucket

Sofina Aube Couture

Aube Couture is the new line replacing "Aube", it's a bit more pricey, however I think they are also trying to grow into a more mature brand. I'm quite excited about this! purchased a few items already, need to find time to try them.

Photobucket Photobucket

Giorgio Armani Pink Lights collection- again, super overpriced brand as we all know it...I think the botton left is the 'Blending Cheek Duo' in #4- Rosewood and something..can be seen on official website, RRP60USD (booo)Photobucket

Shiseido International

Photobucket

Estee Lauder and Clinique

Very interested in that EL palette, I've seen gorgeous pics elsewhere of it!

Clinique ones features 4 Limited Edition eyeshadows in the blossom print (in previous years they've been releasing blushes in that print).

Photobucket

Guerlain Paradis

Guerlain new collection features many single eyeshadows and the Paradis palette #404, unfortunately it's one of those brands that seems to grow in price exponentially...Photobucket

Paul & Joe Ingenue Collection (reviewed in my blog) and the regular line additions - see my earlier posts for reviews on the Ingenue collection.Photobucket

Hope you find these helpful! I compared some actual product pics against my photos above and they match quite reasnoably well.

RMK 2009 Spring Translucence- product pic preview!

RMK lot 3.jpg

RMKclose up.jpg

Finally received the full RMK Spring 2009 Translucence collection, here's the whole lot.

Will gradually release posts on this along with swatches this week.

First pic:

* Top left 2 are "Translucent Cheek & Eyes" which contains dual purpose powders for both cheek and eyes.

Here's a description from RMK- 1,2,3,6 are contouring/blush shades, 4 and 5 are eyeshadow shades. 5 can be used to layer on top of contour/blushes or eyeshadows to add some shimmering hues, a very versatile color.1229486365(pic source: iswii.net)

6 is an iridescent pearl finish, used to create a bright yet translucent texture. Repeated layering with this color should not mess up the overall finish or make it murky, instead it will add translucent lustre to create an airy and lucent spring look.

* Middle top 2 are 'translucent cheek colors' in #01 and #02.

* To the far right are the 5 eyeshadow duos, each featuring an iridescent pink shimmery base shade and a feature color.

* Bottom left are the 3 'Irresistible Lips B' lipsticks in #23, #24 and #25 (from bottom to top).

* Bottom middle lipsticks are the 2 "Irresistible Lips C" lipsticks in #24 (below, and 25 on the top.

* Middle are the two lipglosses in #35 (below) and #36 (top).

(See below for matching color names and prices).

1229485802

RMK 2009 Spring collection theme is "Translucence", it's all about translucency in the color and texture, predominantly a sweet soft pink theme coupled with the usual flowers and petals a lot of brands go for as Spring collection (this somehow reminds me of the Dior 2008 Spring collection..pinks petals and flowers). RMK is going for a light, airy feel with elegance instead of an overly sweet/cute finish.

(as usual, official pics and product Chinese descriptions sourced from iswii.net )

I rarely purchase the full collection out of any brands for any seasonl releases, however this was an exception since I simply couldn't decide! (and eyeshadow duos seem a lot smaller than usual 4 or 5-color eyeshadow palettes...errrm yeah trying very hard to convince myself here..)

The 3 nailpolishes lost their way in the post, so I'll post the remaining pictures and add to this post later once they arrive.
